Stages in a Blitzkrieg Attack: New type of warfare meaning "Lightning War" (no more trenches or stalemates)
1. Aircraft bomb places of strategic importance (required advanced knowledge gathered through reconnaissance), such as bridges and railway lines, enemy headquarters and communication centers
2. Paratroopers are dropped behind enemy lines to attack and secure important places, and cause general chaos and panic
3. Tanks advance over the border, at the weakest points of the enemy front lines, with support from fighter planes
4. Infantry follow the tanks and consolidate positions, encircling enemy strong points
5. Aircraft bomb further inland to disrupt the supply of reinforcements
6. Tanks, with support from fighter planes, advance into this area
7. Infantry follow this advance into enemy territory to mop up
*Germans understood the key to be motorized tanks and coordinated surprise attacks IN ADVANCE of the troops . . . opposite to the French who sent in troops first, supported by tanks
This new method of warfare required the mass production of fast, effective machines and weapons, which in turn required highly skilled and trained workers for factories . . . WORK! (eg. cyrptologists, research labs)
