Canadian Symbolism

Canadians have many reasons to be proud.  We often forget this fact as we are frequently distracted by events in our own everyday lives.  We are a strong and proud nation, with a rich history and heritage that has created a country and a society that is the envy of the world.  It is important to gain an understanding and appreciation of what we have built together as a nation, and our roles and responsibilities in defining our future.  One way of doing this is through the meaningful examination of the symbols that represent us all:  our flag, our citizenship, our anthem, our bilingual and multicultural society, our excellence in sports, literature, film, music, our parks, museums and historic sites, among many others.  Symbols identify us as a unique people who call this magnificent land our home.  They resonate on many levels:  they speak of the tolerance, mutual respect, compassion and acceptance that are deeply ingrained in the Canadian character.
